An Insightful AND Entertaining Documentary About The Future Of Movies
I'm crazy about the movies and could talk about different aspects of the film world for hours upon hours. So any serious contemplation about the art of filmmaking has an inherent interest for me. But beyond that, "Side by Side" assembles some of the biggest names imaginable to discuss the digital revolution currently underway. Producer and host Keanu Reeves interviews such luminaries as Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, Steven Soderbergh, David Lynch, David Fincher, and James Cameron for this piece. And while these are some of the biggest names (those featured prominently on the DVD/Blu-ray cover), there are plenty of other familiar faces willing to weigh in as well. With lessons in film history and film technology, the documentary is also a stunning retrospective of movies that will have you yearning to revisit many of your favorites (often with a new eye). Keanu Reeves (the Producer) asks the right questions on conversion to Digital film making.
It takes a veteran movie star - with name recognition - to gather as many A-list movie directors for a project like this and in this case actor Keanu Reeves fills that role brilliantly. As you will see by the many previous reviews posted here (all based on the Amazon Instant Video streaming version) this is a "film" - and I use that word cautiously here - about the move to "digital" from celluloid. Like the move from vinyl (and before that shellac) records to CDs and digital downloads for music, there is a strong debate as to whether the benefit of cheaper- and less time consuming - processes are better. New digital cameras are MUCH lighter and more portable and the digital images can be modified. But there is a loss in some of the "reality" of the images. And, as for preservation, we are not sure how long the equipment - constantly changing - will survive. I won't get into that debate as this is not the place. Cinema embracing the electronic age
As a long-time keen photographer the change from film to digital for movie production had to be intriguing.
Here, mainly prominent movie directors and technicians, toss the pros and cons of the electronic age invading their industry. It becomes a tad academic given that is is increasingly becoming impossible to shoot a movie on film. Technical services for film production are almost non-existent. Although digital movies have some progress to make to be equal to film, particularly in the field of archiving electronic generated images, the technology is still evolving. A thorough look at the subject. I am keen to view Side by side a few more times to take the details onboard.

GoldenEye [Blu-ray]

Yeah Baby!...
This review refers to the MGM Special Edition DVD of "GOLDENEYE".....

007 is Back! In 1995 the long awaited 17th in the James Bond series was here. The world had been through some changes, and so had Bond. He is now being played by the irresistible Pierce Brosnan. He was the Goldenboy who is remarkably suited to play the dapper, sophistacated, handsome, suave, witty,adventurous,(should I go on, I think you know the rest)007 in "GOLDENEYE".

So even though the world had been through all kinds of changes, there were still evil villans out there who nedeed to be stopped.
James daringly breaks and enters(by way of a super bungi jump) into a Russian Major Weapons facility. Along with 006(not for too long though), he fights off the blazing guns of the soldiers, sets an expolsive, fights some more, goes flying through the air, catches an out of control small plane,
stops it from crashing into a mountainside, and escapes in the nick of time as the massive explosion goes off. And...

This movie will blow your mind
This movie rocks, starting with the jump off the bridge. Then there is the motorcycle-to-plane, while keeping the same bond wit, that hasn't been seen since connory. I really like how it ends and how the girl isn't a bimbo(seeing bond as a man who can't do everything and has emotions really turned this movie in to a keeper). I also believe the plot setting is up there with "goldfinger". I think that the chase near the beginning could have been better but what are you going to do. The evil girl getting pleasure from killing was a nice touch and having a pretty realistic plot, made the story line flow that much more easily. The female and incredible gadgets add for a few surpries that you don't see in other bond flicks. Go rent/buy this movie as soon as you can!

Good movie GREAT femme fatale
I loved Goldeneye because of:
a) Tank chase through St. Petersburg
b) The bungee jump off the dam
c) The humour
d) Isabella Scorupco's performance
and e) Famke Janssen's absolutely perfect, deadly femme fatale Xenia Onnatopp. She's the best, absolutely, the best Bond villain/girl EVER! Ilove Famke Janssen, but I've only seen her in this and X-Men. I can't find others anywhere.
But I'm sure you ain't reading this to hear about me going on about Famke Janssen.
The plot- Bond (superb Pierce Brosnan) is investigating a French anti-electric tampering helicopter, the 'Tiger', when it's stolen by Xenia Onnatopp, a fellow car enthusiast who is linked to a Russian terrorist group Janus.
At MI6, it is discovered a Russian satellite base was struck by an EMP weapon from space known as 'Goldeneye'.
Bond then begins his search for 'Janus', the head of the terrorist group, and soon meets up with one of 2 survivors from te EMP strike, Natalya, Isabella...

Will Hay Double Feature Vol 2: Windbag the Sailor & Good Morning Boys

What a brilliant and funny man was Will Hay.
Will Hay's name (at least in America) is not as well recalled as Laurel & Hardy or W.C. Fields. This is not to say that their brands of humor were similar; they were not; the point being that lovers of good comedy ought to consider discovering for themselves this brilliant artist. As a writer and deliverer of long-winded dialogue, Hay stands in a select circle. The joke is always on him as he stumbles and blusters his way through one catastrophe after another. Remarkable is the sheer memory of the man for retaining improbably long recitations and nonsensical jabber. Just to look at his mug is enough to start the body shaking with amusement. What we in the states called vaudeville, the Brits called the music hall, and some of the keenest wits on either side of the Atlantic emerged from such training grounds. Once exposed to the madcap Will Hay, his name will be less forgotten by one more person.

Bat Masterson Complete Season One Gift Box

IGNORE INACCURATE REVIEW
I've just received the Bat Masterson first season set and, despite what the initial review said, this is a five-disc set, not single disc, beautifully packaged and an incredible bargain. The second season is on the way, and I hope the third will follow.

Beat my expectations!!
Have watched the first 2 disks and the quality is excellent. Free of dirt and dust! Sharp and crisp! Thus far the run times have been just over 26 minutes, which means they are the complete episodes. TGG did an excellent job!! No captions, and a "Play all" or by individual episodes are the only features. But for the price of $11.99 for a newly release by seasons packages, can't beat it!!!

Update...finished the entire Season 1 (5 disks), all episodes run 25:50 or longer. So again, complete episodes.

CANE AND DERBY HAT HIS NAME IS BAT MASTERSON
All 37 eps on 5 disc Prints of the tv shows are very nice.
If you are a fan of the shows. You should get the series.
I hope MGM will bring out season 3 soon

Ultimate Spider-Man: Avenging Spider-Man

Fun Series, Mediocre DVD release
First off, let me say that I am thoroughly enjoying Ultimate Spider-Man. That being said however, for fans who want to complete the series, in order, I have to vent. Disney and whoever is marketing this series is making the level of frustration on this almost unbearable, thus the 2 star rating. Sure I know Jeph Loeb wanted to kill all the previous Marvel Animated series because they had story arcs that were "too involved" but I think our kids are smarter than that. From as young as I can remember (age 4) and I am 37 now, my favorite animated series have always been the ones that have long meaningful story arcs, not the ones that were all stand-alone and never went anywhere. However, the strategy seems to have worked somewhat. Twelve of the 26 first season episodes are on this two disc set. They tried to pick the "Avengers-centric" ones no doubt to capitalize on last year's movie. Does that mean they have little faith in the remaining 14 episodes? And what about season Two just...

Not Willing to Pay for Parts
Bring out complete seasons of this series and you will get my money, but I will not be nickel and dimed to death just to own something that you want to spoon feed to the public so you can make more money. NOT RECOMMENDED until entire season sets are available.

Episodes NOT in order - Be careful about purchasing.
When Ultimate Spider-Man debuted, I hated it. However, after watching it more, it's growing on me and I'm enjoying it. Mind you, it's not the best Spider-Man cartoon, but it is enjoyable.

I was ready to purchase this set, to catch up on things I missed when I gave up on it. However, I then realized that once again, Marvel & Disney have screwed up and not put the episodes in order. The biggest downfall with that, is that there are hints of things that have haven't in past episodes, but those previous episodes aren't included. So, you feel kinda of lost.

For whatever reason, this is becoming typical with the Marvel & Disney animated release, as they screwed up the last two volumes of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes too.

Be very careful about purchasing this, or do what I'm doing, and start DVRing them as they are replaying the episodes over, in order, around 4:30am on DisneyXD.

A Perfect Ending

The Ending to A Beginning
Let me begin by saying, the chemistry between Rebecca, brilliantly portrayed by Barbara Niven, and Paris, played by the amazing Jessica Clark, left me speechless. I can't find the words to convey how powerful their on screen chemistry is. You must experience it yourself.

For me, this movie is the first film I can recall watching about a subject many women deal with every single day, including myself. The challenge of aging and feeling good about ourselves is ongoing for many of us. As we mature and grow older, we sometimes settle for life being what it is each day, not even recognizing we are missing passion in our lives. This is a compelling and powerful story about Rebecca, a mother and wife, looking for passion and Paris, a high priced call girl and artist, who is trying to overcome her own personal struggles. This multilayered film is brilliantly written and the story presented in a way which is moving and thought provoking. Quite frankly, it changed my life...

A New Favourite!
After a year of waiting to see this film.... I'VE FINALLY SEEN IT!!! OMG!!! I now have a new favourite lesbian film!!! I absolutely loved it, everything about it. Barbara Niven especially was UNBELIVABLE, and she's absolutely gorgeous! I think i'm in love ;) Jessica Clark too was fantastic. They had such great chemistry. Brilliant script, and the supporting cast were the best i've seen in any lez film in years. Congratulations to Nicole Conn and Marina Rice Bader on all their hard work - it was all worth it because this is a masterpiece! 10/10

Honest Perfection
Firstly, this is, in the strictest definition, an art film. If you want action, a bunch of T&A, just another chick flick, or a simple linear love story, then this probably is not a film for you.

Secondly, "A Perfect Ending" provides an entire range of potent emotion, from the poignant to the erotic. If you're ready to be transported emotionally, this IS a film you can't afford to miss. Guys will probably not get this, though.

Thirdly, it is not, IMHO, just another "lesbian film." To label it as such and nothing more is to do an injustice not only to writer/director Nicole Conn and the stellar cast and all those involved in the project, but to all those women "out there" who NEED to see the film, because it is, in so many ways, EVERY woman's story on some level.

If you are stuck in a situation, a relationship, a job, a state of mind--any of these things or countless others that tie you up and confine you--then you, too, are on a similar journey as...
